Thank you for your question on the handle release not holding the handle upright.

It sounds like you may have broken off the tab on the release button and it will need to be replaced.

Handle release pedal .

Look at the link above for ordering the replacement foot release pedal.

When you replace the pedal make you do not loose the return spring for the pedal.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for your question.

I can understand your concern when you replaced the belt and its smelling of rubber burning.

First the belt is supposed to go directly around the motor shaft.

There is a belt lifter release for the bare floor mode.

If you have installed the belt the way it shows in the picture below then I believe there is another problem.

  • Remove the roller brush and make sure the roller brush turns freely on its axle. The roller can get hair and of debris rapped around the end caps and cause the bearing to seize up and put extra strain on the belt. If the roller is stiff and does not spin freely you may have to either clean it or replace the roller brush.

I have included a picture below to help you make sure the belt is being installed correctly.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Sears Vacuum Model #116.38512790 Each time we have had to replace the belt, it is due to the motor drive shaft burning the belt in two, The last time this happened, it got so hot it melted the bottom plate adjacent to the belt location and of course destroyed it for use now, the adjitator cover was also partially melted, it also is ruined. The motor drive shaft which turns the belt can be moved side to side. The end caps of the adjitator turn freely. Need Help Please

Q:

Kenmore Vac won't shut off

The problem most of us have is that the vacuum won't run, it is unusual to have one keep running. While you wait for the expert to answer, you can check a similar question from a previous post if you like. I attached the link below. Hope this helps!
