Q:

Fan/Vent Won't Turn Off 72185032111 Kenmore Microwave

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about your Kenmore microwave. I am so sorry to hear the fan keeps turning itself on. I know what a time saver the microwave is and know you want to get it working correctly as quickly as possible. In this case, I recommend leaving it unplugged until you can have it tested and repaired by a qualified technician.

We do not give advice on repairing microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged from the outlet. You need special equipment to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663). Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous for a do-it-yourself project.Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with your future questions and repairs. Thank you for choosing Sears and using our SearsPartsDirect.com service.

Why would I have a tech fix my unit that's only 14 months old and used for 4 months a year and pay somewhere around $100 to $150 for a $3.50 parts to be installed because it's a microwave, when the microwave only cost $200 new. I'll just go out and buy a new microwave that is not made by Kenmore/Sears. It's a shame your product is so poorly made that it breaks down so soon and cost more to repair than to buy a new one. Not Good. But I will spread the word. Trust me. Remember, on average people tell only 2 people when they have a good experience and 14 when they have a bad experience with a product or service and those 14 people will tell another 6. Feel free to send me an email reply if your interested in any additional information. Tks.

I have to agree with "Anonymous". We have had the same problem with our Kenmore microwave. I definitely will not go Kenmore when I replace this dud!

Yep, I'm in the same boat. My microwave fan magically goes on! I have unplugged it because it's obnoxious and expensive. Was it on a recall list somewhere? Seems like I'm not alone, here. I will be replacing it with one that isn't a Kenmore, for sure! I've been a Kenmore fan a long time, but I'm looking elsewhere.

Same problem. Just over two years old. Fan stays on when I open the door. $85 just to come out and tell me I need a new board. No thanks I'll go buy a new one. It won't be a Kenmore. Kenmore dishwasher was bought at the same time and the top rack broke in less than a year. I fixed it myself. Had Frigidaire before at old house and both appliances were eight years old and working fine when we moved. Sears saleswomen called Frigidaire, Frigiscare when we were looking two years ago at appliances. Well Kenmore has also changed its name, Kenpoor. What poor quality.

One of the relay contacts in one of the fan relays is likely welded shut on the control board and the control board will need to be replaced.

Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a lethal electrical charge of up to 2200 VDC -- even when the microwave is unplugged. Repairs and adjustments, even minor ones such as replacing fuses, can cause microwave leakage. A microwave shielding leakage test should be performed after any microwave service.

It is for these safety reasons that we are unable to guide you in microwave repairs and instead recommend scheduling service with a qualified service technician.

My Kenmore microwave oven has the same issue. The device not yet 3 years old and stopped working the other day while my wife was re-heating here coffee. I troubleshot the device and found one of the TCO (thermal cut offs) was open. I ordered a replacement and installed it. The microwave came back to life, but oddly, the two speed vent fan was on and would not turn off unless the power was removed. It would change speed from low to high, but stayed on. We saw no alternative other than replacing the main PC board. A VERY EXPENSIVE alternative. The new (maybe) board came in from Sears Parts and I replaced it. A simple job... but the fan continued to run. The only way I seem to be able to turn the fan off with power on is to interrupt wire V1 which runs from CN202 pin 7 to the vent motor. This makes me believe that Sears replaced my bad PCB with an equally bad PCB. Any comments from technicians with experience with this microwave? BTW my background is electrical engineering MSEE, with years working on radars, but I usually leave appliances to the experts. JR

Anonymous/Joe from March 13, 2014 Just wanted to add now having unplugged my 3 year old microwave (to stop the blower motor) and plugging it back in to heat a cup of coffee, now the microwave is completely shut down, no clock no fan, no light. Next step is to buy a new (NOT KENMORE/SEARS) microwave. Really sad that no one from Sears reads their own reviews. I've purchased all Kenmore appliances for over 45 years and now I will change, never to buy another Kenmore product. Here is my incentive for my 2 adult children, go get your best price on appliances from Sears and then go out a buy any other brand even the top of the line from somewhere else (just not from Sears) and I'll pay for the difference. My prediction is Sears/Kmarts are out of business within 10 years. Anyone agree. They were the #2 retailer behind Kmart's in 1975.

Q:

interior lights Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more than happy to assist you.  I can understand any frustration you may have experienced with regards to your unit. Let’s see what we can do for you.

It sounds like it could be the light switch is not making a proper connection to have the lights come on right away. This switch is the plunger at the top of the fridge when you open the door. I would recommend on replacing this part and seeing if it solves your issue.

Hope this information has helped you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can click here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. If you have any further questions or concerns, you will have to post a new question. Again, thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com.

Samantha A. I appreciate your help but I don't believe that is the problem because the two lights in the fridge and the one in the freezer are on separate switches and both flicker. That would mean both switches went bad at the same time, the switch on the freezer door and the switch on the fridge door.

Im having the same issues. Our fridge is barely over a year old. the freezer and fridge lights flicker when either door is open. must be a factory defect that needs to be addressed. Please help SEARS! If either Ed or Richard comes up with a solution please mail me at Anthony.r.froid@lmco.com and ill post on here if I figure it out. I called sears and they want to charge me a service fee to come look at it. Again its barely 1 year old. Very disappointed with sears.

This is the same exact problem we are having with our refrigerator. Our model # is 10651122210 and we've owned it for less than 2 years. It was not an expensive refrigerator and now Sears says they will come to our home and fix it for $100 plus parts. Really? As the post above says I'm disappointed with Sears and really have no desire spending more for the refrigerator than the original cost. My family grew up with Sears appliances but I can't imagine purchasing another.

Paul---I spoke with sears customer solutions team and was given zero solutions. they basically said fix it myself or pay them to come out. I will keep researching for a fix. someone told me it could be a short but if that was the case the blinking would be inconsistent; as of now it only blinks when the door is open. I will keep posting on here until I get a fix and it has to be fixed. when the kids open up the door when the kitchen is dark it looks like I'm running a disco club (LOL). it appears this is a manufacturing defect; I've noticed many online appliance fix blogs that people with this fridge are having same issue. good luck.

Q:

uE error code 79631512210 Kenmore Elite Washer

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when getting an error code on your Washer display. I did look into the model number you have provided and I have found information that will assist you.

The UE code indicates that the control detects an unbalanced load in the washer that cannot be redistributed. Press the START/PAUSE button and try to redistribute the load. Here are some problems that can cause this error code:

Washing loads that are too small.

The washer is not level or not stable. Make sure that the washer is leveled properly front to back and side to side. Press down on opposing corners to make sure that all 4 feet are firmly on the floor. Adjust the leveling legs if necessary.

Laundry can sometimes gather to one side. Redistributing the load manually can resolve this issue.

Some items like rugs or mixed loads may not be able to be distributed properly.

Try running the washer without any items added and see if it will spin properly. If not, you could have a problem with the control board or the hall sensor on the motor that detects motor speed. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair this type of problem.

Thank you for your question. Have a great day.

This is completely unacceptable. If you cannot wash a small load without having it take more than an hour to do so, then this washer should not have even been made. I purchased this washer along with an entire house full of appliances just over a year ago, and if I knew I would have this trouble with no help from Kenmore, I would have bought another brand. 4 out of 5 load in this washer will delay because of the UE warning. You try to rdistribute the loads and sometimes it takes 5 or six times. A washing machine is supposed to wsh the clothes that are put into it. You should not have to make 5 trips to the basement to redistribute the loads manually. When I run the washer without clothes, there is no warning. The washer is level and stable and was set up by the Sears deliverymen. I have read that there may be some different springs or sensors for this washer, but no one has contacted me with any updates

We are having the same issue as Ross. This is unacceptable and the repairman just left telling us he cannot find anything wrong with the machine. Really? There is something WRONG if I need to redistribute the clothes several times for each load. Worst washing machine I have ever owned and no one to "fix" it.

I am in compete agreement, having the exact same problem. There have to be more people having this issue, surprised I haven't heard more complaints, unless it really is a circuit board issue for select cases. I'm on the phone now trying to get a technician to look at it but reading this I want a credit from Sears for the amount I paid toward a new washer for selling quite frankly an unacceptable machine.

I have the same problem and the problem occurs for more than every other load. I have two kids and this means that we are running 3-4 cycles over and over again, each week. The washer was delivered ~2 months ago, and has no worked without issues for 2 days in a row. Also, often times the spin does not dry the clothes sufficiently for them to be dry with one cycle in a Kenmore Elite Dryer. This is unacceptable.

Same issue with my new Kenmore Elite washer. Three pair of slacks, one towel. UE code, I restarted several times, manually adjusted several times until it finally decided that the load was not unbalanced. Been trying to complete this load for 4 hours. Something definitely not right with this washer. Perhaps software/firmware update is in order.

I have this same problem. It's infuriating!!! Seems like it is worse with smaller loads, but I don't always have a large load to wash. It's been taking me 4-5 hours to complete one load of laundry. When I open the lid, the clothes are evenly distributed. It also seems to be better if I use low spin cycle, however, the clothes are more damp when they go into the dryer. Ugh. I hate this washer right now. I've had it a couple of years and it's recently become really bad with the UE code. HELP!!!!!
