Can a standard replacement thermocouple be used? 153339460 Kenmore Gas water heater

Thank you for choosing sears I would be happy to help you with your water heater. Upon researching model 153339460; the thermocouple for this model is sold as an assembly with the burner parts, all of the parts in the assembly are made to work together. We cannot ensure that installing a different thermocouple will work. I have posted a link of the burner assembly that includes the thermocouple to view the link click here.

I trust that this information will help you, thank you have a great day.

How to change drain valve Kenmore Gas water heater

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I can certainly get you the instructions on how to change your drain valve on your water heater. I did look into the model number you have provided and I have found instructions to assist you. Before repairing your water heater make sure it is not turned on.
To change the drain valve the water heater must be emptied. Drain the water heater completely.
1. Once unit is completely drained, remove the drain valve by unscrewing it counter clock-wise with pliers or small pipe wrench.
2. Get replacement valve. You will not know how long the drain valve is unit the old one is removed.
3. Apply teflon tape and pipe joint compound on the threads of the new valve before installing it into the place.
4. Screw the new drain valve into place, tighten, and make sure to position it to face the right direction.
5 Refill with water and test for leaks. Check back several days to ensure there are no slow leaks.

Let me know if this helps.

Thank you for your question. Have a great day.
