LLya, If the pilot goes out right away and the thermocouple has been replaced, it will lead to a defective gas valve. However, first make sure the pilot flame engulfs the top portion of the thermocouple. If it doesn't, the problem could still be the gas valve but it could also be a restricted orifice or low gas pressure. If the pilot does stay lit for awhile before it goes out, the problem could be with the ventilation. In this case, you will need to remove the burner assembly and either vacuum or blow out the side vents and the bottom arrestor under the burner. If the pilot still goes out, due to the potential danger involved with a gas water heater, a technician will be required to check and make this repair. You can call 1-800-469-4663 to schedule a tech to come out. I hope this will help you.
