Q:

pilot went out on my water heater and will not relight 153337563 Kenmore Gas, water heater

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
Sorry to hear of the issue you are having with the pilot assembly, I know how frustrating that is to have occur.

The key question is are you getting any spark when you press the ignitor button? If you don't see a spark then most likely a wire has come loose.
First hold the knob down for 10-20 seconds to purge the air from the line and press the ignitor button again.
If the pilot lights, then continue to hold the knob down for at least a minute and maybe a tad longer.
If purging any air doesn't make a difference, you may need a replacement pilot and/or thermocouple for the unit.
The leak under the tank is concerning. Do you know where it's emanating from? If the bottom of the tank is rusting (which is common in older units), there really isn't much you can do except replace the water heater. The anode rod must be replaced periodically to make sure the minerals don't accumulate and speed up the rusting process of the tank.
Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

From the description you give and the problem you have I suspect the thermostat/control valve is at fault.

To correct this problem will most likely require replacing the valve. The control valve F145-1278 can be obtained from the following link: Valve .

You will need to first drain the unit before replacing the thermostat/valve.
