My igniter is working, getting a spark, pilot is not lighting. Could it be the gas control valve is faulty? Other gas appliances in home are working, so I know there's no problem with gas getting to the water heater. Looks like gas is not getting from the gas control valve to the pilot.

Thank you for your question. I know it can be very frustrating when the hot water heater fails. Based on the information listed, this appears to be either a defective valve or low gas pressure. The most likely problem will be with the gas valve. Replacing the valve is not difficult but the tank will need to be drained before the gas valve is removed. To drain the tank, first turn the water supply valve off and also turn the supply gas valve off to the water heater. Now, connect a water hose to the drain valve and open the valve. Also open some hot water faucets and also the pressure relief valve. This will help the tank drain faster. I hope this helps you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the water heater. Usually when we see this, it is because the spark arrestor is dirty. The spark arrestor is located on the bottom of the water heater. If it is plugged the safety thermostat will over heat and turn the gas supply off. I have posted an image below that shows how to clean the spark arrestor. Click on the image to enlarge it. If this is something, you feel comfortable in doing the cleaning make sure to turn the gas off before you start the repair. If this does not cure the problem, I recommend having a service technician come out and diagnose the water heater. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
