Question and Answers

Why does my pilot light go out on Water Heater?

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the water heater. If the pilot would not stay lit when you released the button, the problem was likely a defective thermocouple. As for the pilot going out after the heat cycle, the problem could be a plugged orifice in the pilot assembly. I recommend taking the burner back out and removing the pilot tubing from the burner. Inside of the pilot burner, there is an orifice. Check it to make sure there is not something blocking it. If it is clean, the problem either is a gas valve or might be a venting issue going on. I recommend calling a service technician out to diagnose the water heater. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
