Q:

Kenmore miser 12 pilot issues 153.331544

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your water heater. Upon researching model 153.331544; it sounds like the thermostat is not functioning properly. It seems that it shuts off gas flow. The gas valve getting warm seems like an indication that it is not functioning properly.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

I have same model for about 8 years, and my pilot light started to shut off sporadically, most likely after heating cycle. I checked the manual, and it says to clean the air intake screen among other things. There are 2 plastic screens on the lowest portion of the unit, not visible because it is smaller diameter than the rest of the unit, you have to dive to get to them. I cleaned the screens, they were covered in dust and lint. I will see if that helps in the long run... if not, I will post an update.

Pilot light shuts off when weather is 100+ degrees 153331544 Kenmore Water heater

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. I regret to hear that you are having issues with your water heater
and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number 153.331544 and if during the summer months the air that surrounds the water heater is higher than tank's set temperature, the thermostat won't open the gas valve to light the main burner. Heat produced by the pilot flame is not enough to make a condition for natural draft, so all the oxygen will burn up and pilot light will not stay lit.

If there is a poor ventilation, the hot air tends to rise up, and the combustion air from the attic doesn't come down to provide the oxygen to the burner, resulting in the pilot turning off. If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information.
