Q:

Can the water heaters T&P relieve valve be converted from side mount to top mount?

A:

Unfortunately there is no way to know if the model water heater your looking to purchase will have a extra plug for mounting the T&P Relieve valve on top without physically looking at it. I recommend going to Sears and physically looking at them to see if any have a extra plug for the T&P relieve valve.

When the user's manual states "Optional top T&P relieve valve not shown" it means that it won't show it because you would use the one on the side by taking it off, putting a plug in it's original mounting spot relocating the T&P relieve valve on top. Not all model are convertible and the majority of them are not.
