Question and Answers

Q:

Can I remove the plastic heat traps from the nipples on a hot water heater?

A:

To remove the heat traps, the nipples will need to be removed from the water heater. With the nipples out, you can use a hammer and punch, to drive the balls out of the nipples. I would not recommend doing this. It would be much easier to just replace the nipples with # 33903. These are not heat trap nipples. If you need more assistance, please resubmit your question, with additional details.

I have the same issue as bikertaz. How do you remove the nipple. I'm afraid of ruining the threads on the nipples when removing and installing new one. I'm also concerned that the nipple is suppose to be removed with out damage to the water heater.

Q:

Why can't we get hot water to the shower?

A:

Actually the heat trap nipples had no bearing on this problem. If you're getting hot water to all the other taps, the problem with your shower, will either be in the plumbing (water line) to the shower or the shower faucet. If this has just recently occurred and you previously had hot water, I would suspect the shower faucet has failed. A plumber may be needed to check this. If you do not feel confident in completing this type of project yourself, I recommend that you use a pre-screened professional from the ServiceLive.com website. I hope this helps you.
