Q:

Can't find "vacation" mode on water heater. Just moved into new one. Is it necessary if going away for 6 weeks.

A:

Thanks for the inquiry about your water heater model 153.321542, I will be glad to assist you. The heater does not have a vacation model. It is always a good idea to turn off water supplies and electricity to appliances when they are not in use for extended times, especially if no one is available to check them often.  I hope this is helpful to you. A:

I can understand your concern over wanting to know if a different size element can be used in your water heater. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did some research on the unit. At this time, I was unable to locate information that would be helpful in regards to your question. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner.

Thank you for your question. The elements that came with this unit should be the convertible type elements. A bus bar that should have been included would need to be connected, to the element terminals, as shown in the diagram below to convert the elements to 5500 watts. Now, the electrical supply to the water heater will need to be able to handle the stronger load. I would recommend having a technician or electrician check this first, before converting it to the larger wattage element. I hope this will help you.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
