No, you do not remove the blue plastic heat traps in the nipples. NOTE: If using copper tubing, solder tubing to an adapter before attaching the adapter to the cold/hot water inlet connection. Do not solder the cold/hot water supply line directly to the cold water inlet. It will harm the dip tube and damage the tank.

Can you help me with the water heater wiring?

A:

The black and red from the power box will connect to the top 2 terminals # 1 and # 3 on the top thermostat. The blue and red wires from the unit connect to middle terminal # 4 on the upper thermostat. The black wire connects to the bottom terminal # 4 on the upper thermostat and terminal # 1 on the lower thermostat. The white wire from the power box connects with the green ground wire.
