Q:

Why are the grease drain and the heat tray shield not made of stainless steel?

A:

Since the heat shield and the grease tray are not visible from the outside of the grill, it is not necessary or cost effective to make these parts out stainless steel.

Q:

Gas grill 141-16691 has won't stay lit.

A:

If the burners won't stay lit on the Kenmore grill, that can ruin a good barbecue. I have attached a few links with similar issues on other grills that may be helpful. An expert will be with you shortly.

Do the 6 main grill burners flame out when all are on? If only one main grill burner is used does it make a difference? Is this a new problem that just started? Is the unit being used with LPG or NG? Was the unit ever converted from one type of gas to the other? You can reply with any additional details or questions for further assistance.

When any of the burners light they flame out. I can't get one to stay lit. The flame is always low and does not seem like it can be raised or lowered. The burners will sometimes light with the ignitor and sometimes with a hand held lighter. The problem is new. I have always used LPG for this grill. I do smell gas, but it doesn't seem like I smell it all the time.

Since the side burner works I suspect the regulator is okay. From the problem you have I suspect the main gas manifold is the problem. The problwm with the mainfold being the problem is that it cost approximately $555 dollars. Replacing the grill would be a better option.

Thank you for the response, Fred. Is the $555.00 figure for the part only, or part and labor?

Try this first. Turn the bottle off. After turning the gas supply bottle off remove the hose/connection. Turn all of the burner valves on to purge all old gas and then shut the valves off, Reconnect the gas line to the tank and turn the tank valve on a small amount. Let me know if this helps. Good luck.

I tried that. The side burner is sometimes very low, even when set to high, and sometimes it works as I remember it should. Also, I hear a hiss coming from around the bottle and regulator, even if I have all of the burner valves off. I tried with two full bottles and experience the same thing.
