Chain jams 139664000 Craftsman Sears electronic garage door opener

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your garage door opener. Upon researching 139664000, the unit is from 1987. With the age the new units would be made differently. Unfortunately there is not a substitute for this unit. You could try taking the gears and sprocket to a lawn and garden shop or a place that specializes with garage door openers and see if they have any left. One thing to keep in mind is the new units run about $120 to $180. The new ones also have security features where the code changes every time you use the opener or has a billion codes so they are more secure then the older units.

If you have any further questions please re-post. Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

Hello Marie,

I would like to assist you with your garage door opener light that is stuck on. I want to thank Don for the information, his answer is correct. There is a switch that is referred to as a bi-metal switch. It is constructed from two different metals that have different thermal expansion rates. When a coil of wire that is wrapped around the two metal strips is energized with a little bit of electricity, it heats up. The two different metals thermally expand at different rates and that in turn causes the contact to be made and the lights to turn on. In the case of yours, the switch has stuck in the on position and needs replacement.

The part number that Don referenced is correct; however, it is no longer available on Sears Parts Direct. I searched on the internet and found no results of vendors offering it at this time. I suggest that you simply remove the bulb to stop the light from constantly being on.

I'm sorry to have given you the bad news. Please let me know if there is anything further that I may assist you with.
