When the receiver gets the correct radio frequency and code it turns on a transistor that closes a relay.

On your particular model, the signal is sent via the wires from the wall control to the main opener assembly. Even from the remote, the wall control receives the signal and then sends it to the main opener. On newer models, the wires only carry the signal of the wall control and the remotes "talk" directly to the main board.

With yours, the whole of the control system is made into the wall control. If you push a button on the wall control or push a remote button, that signal is processed in the wall control and then sent, via the wires, to the main opener.

Expert Wade: Thankyou for your in put. You mentioned the signal being processed and sent . Is the signal the same for remote and buttons when it is sent through the wires? I ask this because the buttons work and I had the remote and receiver checked out at our local tech. collage in tacoma and they say it was working. When testing the remote, should it show a closed or short circut at the wire terminals from a closed switch or relay or is the radio side going to have a diferent type of signal? If it is different what should I see at the power point whitch is the same as the signal output?

The signal from the wall control to the main opener is going to be the same through the wires. The wires will be open until you push a button or click the remote.

I'm guessing you're having some problems with the remotes not working. Try standing right at the wall control when you push the remote button. If this is what I think it is, the radio receiver has failed.
