Question and Answers

Q:

garage door jerks 139.53991srt

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your Craftsman garage door opener model 139.53991srt. I am so sorry the door jerks when opening. I understand your concern and am sorry all the fixes you have already tried did not resolved this issue. I will be happy to help you with this.

There are several things that can affect the smooth operation of the door. Make sure you disconnect the power to the opener before you begin your inspection of the parts. Start by checking the rails for something that may interfere with the travel of the trolley. Next perform a door balance test. I have included the link below to our manufacturer’s instruction on the door balance test.

If the door fails the balance test you will need a technician to balance the door for you. This is not a do-it-yourself type of project. It is extremely dangerous balancing the door if you don’t have the proper knowledge.  If the door balance is fine, check the drive belt and the opener gear assembly for damaged or worn parts and replace them if necessary.
I have included a couple of links for you. The first is to our troubleshooting guide that will give you helpful tips if the above checks do not identify the issue.

The other is to our manufacturer’s technical support team for further assistance.

SAFETY WARNING: Disconnect the power supply before beginning your repair to prevent the risk of electrical shock which can result in property damage, serious personal injury or even death. Internal parts may have sharp edges that can cause serious cuts. Use caution and wear work gloves. If you are not comfortable completing this repair, you can set up service at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME).

I hope this answers your question. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.
