Hello, glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is problems with the garage door opener.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Craftsman Garage Door opener model number 13953924.

Hearing the bang would make me think of a couple items that goes wrong.  I know you say it looks right but has gone bad.  Please look at the picture below.   I would also guess the #14 or the # 8a or #8B.   8a and 8 b are the pulleys.   I would heavily guess the coupling drive #14.

This really didn't answer either of my questions. The plastic rack that I ordered isn't in kit form, it is just the plastic part. What type of grease or lube do I need to use? and do I just lube the rack or lube the entire screw? Second, I was not really wanting to buy the AssureLink kit. Since the unit has a "Learn" function where it can learn the signal from a remote opener, can it also learn the signal from a smartphone app? and if not from a smartphone, can I purchase a generic garage door opener and then use the "Learn" function to program the unit to function with that generic remote? thanks, Terry

My main question now is when I get the new plastic rack, do I grease or lube it?
