Question and Answers

Q:

garage door opener light 139.53914D

A:

1. Obviously, switching the lightbulbs from one socket to the other will tell you if the 'non-burning' bulb is defective. 2. If the 'non-burning' bulb fails to light in the other socket, the bulb is bad. 3. If the 'non-burning' bulb lights in the other socket and the 'good' bulb doesn't light in the original 'non-burning' socket, the original 'non-burning' bulb socket is bad. 4. If the former, replace the bad bulb. 5. If the latter, turn off the circuit breaker that feeds power to the unit, take the unit apart and look for a loose wire in the 120V circuit that feeds the 'defective' socket and repair it. It's possible that the socket, itself, could be bad. Not being familiar with your particular model, there were some older models that had rheostats in them that may need to be replaced. Not very expensive to do.

Thanks fetz2, I had already checked the bulbs just like you suggested. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some control feature that needed adjustment. I will have to look for loose wires and/or replace the socket. Or maybe I will just live with 1 bulb for awhile, you know? All the best!!
