Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

Give Don's suggestion a try and most likely that will take care of the problem.

If it does not, stop back by here and let me know and we'll see what else may be going on.

I have already checked the worm gear and rpm cap and plug, the new circut board for my model is no longer available for me model #, it is an after market board, the light plug is on the board side, it came with the option to unplug and cap, due to the reason my light is on the front of the unit. I tried the force controls to no avail. something is telling it to keep going back up, when i want it to go down i have to hold the wall button down to keep it going down but when i release , it goes back up no mattter what the position of the door.

If you have to hold down the wall control button to make it go down then it is very likely an issue with the safety sensors. It sounds like the down limits are not working to stop the door. Have you adjusted the limit switches? If not, give that a shot. If you've tinkered with the limits and still have the issue, it could be the board. I'm pretty suspicious of aftermarket boards for these things.

I have the same issue with the same model as XX Wade. I also replaced the circuit board about 7-8 years ago. You are correct about the aftermarket boards but what choice do you have with an older opener?

Q:

My garage door opener won't work. green led light on back blinks 5 times. Light will turn on but

A:

There are only a couple of reasons that a five flash occurs. The first is if you run the motor too much in a short amount of time and it over heats. To solve this unplug it and let it rest for 1 hr.

The second is your rpm sensor is malfunctioning. Unplug the unit to reset the code. If it persists replace the rpm sensor.

The third is the trolley is stuck on the up stop bolt. It is located on the rail. It needs to be removed and then adjust the UP travel Opposite of the arrow, or down so it does not go up so far. If none of this helps we recommend you replace the logic board. You can get these items at searspartsdirect.com, click on contact us for help on items. Thanks BB

"MMH Expert_Bob B" nailed it with his last suggestion, in my case it was stuck on the bolt. I loosened the chain bolts to pull the carriage away from the stop bolt, adjusted the garage door max height setting (lowered it) and pressed the button and it worked. One note, the light keeps blinking afterwards but unglugging/plugging in the unit turned it off.

@John. You might have a broken spring. The springs are on a torsion pole thats running across your header. Make sure you have no gaps between the springs.
