Q:

Garage door opener model 139.654001

A:

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with programming the remote to the garage door opener. We are here to help. The universal remote you purchased 139.30498 will not work with this opener. It is designed to work with openers made in 1993 and newer. The remote for your garage door opener has been no longer available for over 15 years. However, if you upgrade the opener with a conversion kit, the universal remote will program to it. The part number for the conversion kit is 53751. Also, due to state laws, the conversion kit cannot be sold in NY,CA and MN. The only other option is a new garage door opener. I hope this helps.

To order a conversion kit, please visit SearsPartsDirect.com.

I can understand how difficult it can be to replace your old remotes. The little "dip switch" set is in the wall control of your opener, it's not on the main part of the opener where that stuff is on the newer models. If you opener up the faceplate of the wall control (if flips down usually) you will see a little bank of dip switches. Match the switches in the remote up with how they are on the inside of that wall control and that should get you back up and running again. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

AnneJ, Your comment of June 27, 2012 is not a possible solution to the problem of using the "30498" digital control with the Sears Model 76LE Garage door opener. While the old control does have a "DIP SWITCH", the new digital control is complete computerized. It has NO DIP-SWITCH at all. Thus the question still stands: How would anyone be able to configure the new digital controller "30f98" to work with my "Sears MODEL 76LE Garage Door Opener Digital Control" Model 139.655400"? Thank you for your consideration.

I also chat online with an "expert" of Craftsman/Sears, who believes that the opener model No.139655400, probably was built in 1987, and hence no newer (post-1993) remote would work. It was also said that it is time to buy the entire opener new, as the replacement is not available today.

Johanna, The directions you stated above is not the same as the image. You have to put the remote in programming mode. Also, once it is programmed, another button has to be pushed to lock it into memory.

From my question: Following the very simple directions, it does not program. (These were the directions that came with the part, and the ones you sent.) When they didn't work I chatted with a rep and they directed me to a site with answers given to others who have had the same problem with programing this replacement remote. I tried these as directed by the rep. AFTER trying the directions that came with the part and you sent.

Johanna, The instructions that was given on chat, is for the original replacements remotes. The instructions that came with the remote and what I provided, are for the universal remote. I recommend checking the back of the opener for a blinking led. That would indicate a signal from another source, preventing the remote from programming. However, if there is no blinking led, then I suspect the logic board has a memory problem. The logic board needs to be replaced. The universal remotes usually work properly.
