I think using WD40 to free the stuck blade is the best bet. I would turn the saw upside down and soak the tool less blade change mechanism with WD40. Let the WD40 soak and penetrate for several hours. Wriggle the blade occasionally and help the WD40 to penetrate.

With patience you will be able to get the blade out.

Q:

I have a Craftsman saber saw model 135.17241. Can you help with a blade release problem?

A:

The blade release is probably gummed up with sawdust and resin from the wood you have cut.

Blow the blade release area and the complete saw out with compressed air if possible.

Spray the blade release area liberally with WD40 or a similar product. Let the cleaner soak into the blockage for 20-30 minutes and spray again. Continual spraying and soaking will probably break up the jam and you will be able to move the the blade release again.
