Q:

Sears Chipper Shredder Model 247797851 Runs Horribly

A:

Good afternoon.... I can understand your concern and you've done a good job at trying to get to the bottom of this problem. I did locate a link that will discuss your situation in greater detail. Though this link discusses a different model number, the mechanics are likely going to be very similar. Keep in mind that an expert will be responding within the next two business days if not sooner and will likely offer you more information and instruction. I hope this link will help guide you as to what might be wrong with your chipper shredder and have a nice day.

Thank you for your question.I am sorry you are having a problem with the chipper. Based on the symptoms you are having I suspect the problem is in the carburetor. I looked up the model number you submitted. The carburetor on this model has a diaphragm that will cause the engine not to start if it is damaged. The part number for the diaphragm is 270026 and can be ordered from the following link. Diaphragm part number 270026 for engine model 130212-3250-01. When replacing the diaphragm I recommend cleaning the carburetor at the same time. To do that, you have to remove the carburetor from the engine with the tank. Then remove the carburetor from the tank. Once it is removed, disassemble the carburetor and spray out all the holes with carburetor cleaner and compressed air. After the carburetor is cleaned, reassemble it with the new diaphragm hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance on the chipper.  Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark T.

Mark - Thank you for helping! I purchased and installed the part. The shredder started right up, and ran great for a few minutes, and then it started acting up again. I took the carburetor off and checked the linkage, re-attached a spring, and after futsing for a while got it started and running fine. Then it ran out of gas. I filled it up, but I haven't been able to get it started. Its seems like no gas is getting into the chamber. It is getting spark. Perhaps I need to clean the carburetor again? This think only costs me $100, so I don't want to take it in for a $150 to $200 tuneup - I might as well buy a new one. Mike

Mark - thank you for all your help - I took the carburetor off the gas tank and noticed lots of grit in the reservoir in the top of the tank, and sure enough the carburetor was clogged. I blew it out and its now running great. Thanks again - Mike

Mike, I am glad to hear you have the engine running again. If this happens again, you may need to replace the fuel tank. If the inside of the tank is rusted, it will keep giving you troubles. Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark

Q:

Is there a more detailed carborator diagram to help me to reassemble the throttle portion on the carborator?

A:

I did some research on the model number and part number but was not able to find a good diagram of the carburetor to reassemble it. Your expert will be able to help answer your question. It may take two business days for your expert to reply. I do hope that everything works out.
