If neither the broil or bake will work the problem is usually a thermostat, broken wire, or the oven control.

If you will reply on this thread and include the model number of the range and details of what works and what doesn't, I will be glad to help.

Model # 790.95039700 Kenmor. I have only had it since 2008. Everything works. CLock, timer, oven light , all surface burners work. The oven just not heat up. I push the bake button, select temp and it clicks like it is heating up and I do hear a slight hum as if it is going to heat, but nothing, no glow, no heat at all.

Thanks for sending the model number and details. You know the range is getting the proper voltage since the top burners and the oven light are working. Your range does not have a safety thermostat that could be causing the bake element no not work. Try broil and see if the broil element will heat. Inspect the bake element for any rough areas on it. When an element fails it will sometimes create an area on the outside of the coil that is very rough. If you find such an area, replace the element. Disconnect the power to the range and remove the covers on the rear of the range. Inspect the yellow wire that runs from the clock to the bake element, Inspect the orange wire that runs from the clock to the broil and bake elements. If you have an ohm meter, disconnect one wire from the bake element and check the resistance of the element. The bake and broil elements should read around 15-30 ohms resistance. If you still have questions reply on this thread and I will be glad to help.

No the broil does not work. I checked the coils and they are smooth, no rough spots and their is no spots where it looks like they burned out I do not have an ohm meter. I guess I will have to call a repair man. Do you think it is a part that needs to be replaced? Do you think it is the control panel or still the bake element? A repairman is going to cost 129.00 just to come out and diagnosis. Any other suggestions. Thank you.

Since neither the bake or broil elements are working, I don't think the elements are the problem. I think the clock is the problem unless a wire is burned on the clock or elements. I don't want to recommend you replace the clock without some further testing. I guess you should get a technician to diagnose the problem.

My Kenmore Elite convection oven will not heat. I have had it repaired before and the repair was simple. The reason why the oven broke on both occasions is because I used it to heat the kitchen. I just need to know the part I need to buy to replace and have the oven work again. The repairman called the part a heating element. I cannot find a item with that description. Can you help?

Thank You...I have the diagram. It does not show where the wires connect. There are 2 wires number 6 and 16 in the diagram, both look identical and thus there are 4 connectors. There are only 3 possible post connections, 2 on the switch and 1 on the motor...please help me!...scratching my head...

Mark T, My motor, 279787 does not have the terminal shown where the upper, dark blue wire connects, shown in your photograph. Futher, I have directions entitled "Rewire instructions for 279787 with broken belt switch" that came with my motor. These instructions direct the installer to hook up one wire to the broken belt switch. Where does the other side of the broken belt switch go to on the motor? I have seen a number of people asking this in other forums. One of them is in this one with another expert. There was no answer given. Help.

I happy and amazed that I found the exact answer to my somewhat obscure question at the top of a Google search. It turns out that I wired the switch correctly, but I wasn't sure until now, and I'd hate to blow another motor. I called the other technician who has more experience than I do with appliances. He's the one that removed the old motor and then didn't have time to finish the job once the new motor arrived (like I've got the time?). But he didn't recall disconnecting anything except the harness plug and had no idea where the second wire from the switch should attach. So now I'm registered with "Manage My Life", so maybe I can help out by answering a question or two. My first words of advice are: Avoid working on 27" stack washer dryer units installed in a 29" closet in a galley kitchen 36 inches wide. Your back and hips will appreciate it.
