Kenmore Elite trio 596 7659 601. Over weekend fridge and freezer temps said "OFF." we pushed buttons and got temp readings. Both areas had warmed up. food in freezer melted. Both sections did cool down again. Cleaned completely behind fridge. Unplugged, and plugged in again, flipped circuit breaker. Was working OK until last night. Both temps read "OFF" again and we can't get that to change. Emptied freezer last night, packed fridge with ice. Portable thermometer reads 48 in fridge; food still feels cold. ice cubes in freezer are partially melted. Does this sound like the control panel went out (first one didn't last one year) or maybe the temp. sensors? Is there anything I can do? This fridge is only 5 years old. Last one lasted 23 years with not one problem. Wasted an hour today just trying to talk to ANYONE at Sears.

After about 4 tries, some numbers started showing up. I never saw "SH." Now the freezer is flashing between 39 and 50. The fridge says 70. The door alarm light is on. The temp alarm light is flashing. An alarm is beeping once every 7 seconds. Nothing I try will turn it off. Please tell me how to stop the alarm or I will have to unplug the fridge. I had partial use of it packed with ice but I can't use it with a constant alarm. If it takes more than 30 min to answer I will unplug it.

Carol, due to the unit being off, you're going to have to give it at lease 12-24 hours to come fully back up to temperature. The beeping you're hearing is the temperature alarm souding because the temperature for he unit is high. The fresh food section should be set to 37 degrees and the freezer shoud be set to 0 degrees. Allow it time to get there. The door alarm light will remain light unit it reaches the correct temperature. On page 11 of your owners manual it states: " Temperature alarm: An alarm will sound repeatedly if the freezer or refrigerator compartment temperatures exceed normal operating temperatures for an hour or more. The temperature displays will alternately show the current temperatures and the highest temperatures the compartments reached. Press the Temp Alarm touch pad once to stop the audible alarm and alternating temperature displays. The Temp Alarm light will continue." I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist further.

It took several tries and about 20 minutes but the alarm finally went off. I can't set temperatures; the numbers just keep flashing.

Carol, if you're unable to change the temperature, this may be a control board issue. Try unplugging the unit for 5-10 minutes to see if the board will reset. Then plug it back in to reset the temperaures. When changing the temperature, it should only flash for moment and then steady with a temperature. The degrees will get lower as it stablizes. If this doesn't work, I recommend service. You can schedule for service online with our Sears Home Services team through the link below.

Hello, I am having a similar problem. My Kenmore Trio (596.76523500) has an unresponsive control panel. It just shows the current temp in the freezer and the refrigerator, and pressing any of the buttons does not do anything. Replacing the control panel only elicited the beeping mentioned above, but the buttons are still unresponsive. Any thoughts on button combos to press?

Q:

Ice maker not delivering enough ice 106.51179310

A:

Thank you for contacting Sears. I will be more than happy to assist you with your Kenmore refrigerator.

I can understand the frustration of your refrigerator not functioning properly, after researching model number 106.51179310. When a new ice maker is installed it may take about 12-24 hours for the ice maker to cycle properly and fill with right amount of ice. If it’s been about this time frame and the issue is still there. You may have an issue with the inlet valve. The valve may not be opening properly not allowing the water to flow properly.

I hope you found this information useful. Again thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business, have a great day.
