Q:

Kenmore Gas Grill, 146.16132110.

A:

You can think of a searing station as an extra burner. It is use for searing meat prior to cooking. Searing locks in the juices and browns the meat. If you use it as an extra burner, make sure you turn down the flame before using.

Hello Richard,

I would like to answer your question and assist you. The searing burner is a super hot burner for searing meat to seal in the meat juices. To use the burner turn it on and wait about 5 minutes for it to heat up. Use a little oil on the grate or directly coat the meat lightly prior to putting it on the searing burner, to prevent it from sticking.

Lay the meat on the grill and wait only about 2 minutes and rotate the meat a half turn to get the grill marks pattern on the meat. Depending on the thickness of the meat you will only have to wait a couple more minutes before you flip the meat over and repeat the procedure. You can continue to cook the meat on the searing burner if you can turn it down on your model or move it off the searing area to a cooler part of the grill and continue cooking until you have the desired doneness you like. Let the meat stand for about 5 minutes loosely covered with foil to let the meat juices move back into the meat before you cut or serve.

Please let me know if you would like any further assistance.

No bad jerry. i have an all-infrared grill that's very hot all the time. the sear burners can be adjusted but there is only so much range. The thing to remember with infrared burners is heat is direct off the flame. With a traditional "blue-flame" bbq burner the closed hood causes heat to build-up and surround the food with hot air. An infrared burner direct-heats the food above it. This is very different. For instance, even if you could close the hood of a blue-flame bbq and build up to 1200 degrees this would not be the same as an infrared grill because the infrared heat is not conducted in air or radiated off briquettes. The only difference I would suggest from jerry's message above is to move the steak/fish/burgers every 10 - 15 seconds for the first minute of searing. Using oil will interrupt your dry rub or marinade. A cooking grate makes a huge differential in heat because of the direct heat of an infrared burner. it is possible to have strips in the meat of cooked and raw meat because of the grates. I have posted a lot if images showing this on our blog. instead of using oil to stop sticking move the food very slightly -- about the space of a single space of a grid or quarter-turn the food every 15 seconds. This will give the food a better sear and stop sticking. A better sear means the outer layer f food is sealed so moisture cannot drip. lots of flavor when cooked this way. Also, an experienced grilling tip for infrared amazement: use marinade then dry rub then a good tenderizer with razors. Pack the flavor in the steak and sear fast above 1000 degrees and you'll never be able to justify spending eighty dollars on a fancy steak again!

I would love to write a scathing review on this grill. I bought it three years ago brand new from SEARS. After one year, I had to replace the drip pan because it rotted out. Now after 3 years, everything inside the grill has corroded beyond function. I always kept it covered when not in use. I've owned a lot of grills in my life but this was the biggest POS I have ever had.

Q:

What part do I need to repair the display screen on my Sharp Carousel r-1200 microwave. R1200 Sharp Microwave

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and for contacting us with your question about your microwave. I am so sorry the display screen needs to be replaced. I know what a time saver the microwave is and I am sure you want this issue fixed quickly.  In this case I recommend you have the microwave serviced by a qualified technician.

We do not give diagnostic or repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged from the power supply. Special equipment is needed to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after ANY/ALL microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663). Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous for a do-it-yourself project.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with any other questions and repairs in the future. Thank you for choosing Sears.
