Q:

carpet beater 11659512991 Kenmore Power mate

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear that the brush roller is not spinning in the PowerMate. I know how frustrating that is.

You don’t specifically mention, but do you have power to the PowerMate? If the belt is fine and the motor is not seized, I suspect a power issue.

The first thing I would suggest is to push the reset button on the top of the PowerMate cover (if equipped) to see if that will solve the problem.

If that does not solve the problem then you will need to remove the wand from the handle to see if you have power in the hose up to the handle switch.

If you have a volt/ohm meter you can check the voltage at the top receptacle connections in the handle for 120 volts AC with the switch in the on position. Put your meter on the 120 volt scale and put both the red and black probes into the two holes on the hose connection for the handle to see if you have power through the hose to the switch.

If you have power there, then it may be in the wand cord or down in the PowerMate motor circuit.

If you do not have power at the end of the handle connections then you may have a broken wire in the hose.

Disconnect the hose from the canister and check for power with the meter at the receptacle coming out of the canister. If you have power there, but not at the end of the hose, you may have a bad switch or a bad wire in the hose.

If you do not have power coming out of the canister receptacle then you will have a problem on the inside of the canister.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

I have a kenmore vacuum #116.59512991. & i need to know how to remove the cover. Please help.

A:

Home repairs and maintenance for home vacuum systems is common but sometimes it is difficult to get parts apart. While you wait for directions from the expert, I attached the owner's manual and the parts diagrams from Sears Parts Direct. They may help see how things are connected. I hope they help.

Thank you for your request to the process for removing the top cover off the power mate.

The light lens just pops off then you will see two long screws next to the work light.

Remove those two screws and remove the light bulb from the socket.

Then grasp the sides of the top and pull out and up to remove the cover.

Note the location of the front of the cover down in front by the roller to you can put it back in the same location.

I hope this will help.
