Thank You for submitting your question.

I have found specific instructions on how to remove the agitator. Since you will be taking apart the powermate I would recommend changing the belt while you are in there. I will include the instruction on how to remove the belt as well.

Vacuum Belt for model 116.52513202

Instructions

  1. Turn the vacuum head upside down so that the bottom of the vacuum head is facing you. Find the two screws near the front edge of the vacuum head that secures the cover to the head. Remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

  2. Turn the vacuum head right-side up. Press the release pedal for the handle with your finger and lower the handle of the vacuum head. Lift the rear latches to the vacuum head cover with your fingers. Grasp the rear sides of the cover with your hands. Lift the side tabs with your fingers, and slide the cover off the vacuum head. This will reveal the inside of the vacuum head.

  3. Lift the agitator out of the vacuum head with your fingers. The agitator is the long, round bar with the brush that does the work of vacuuming the carpet.

  4. Place the new belt over the drive pulley and the end of the agitator. Insert the agitator back into its slot in the front of the vacuum head. If necessary, use a flat-head screwdriver to help pry the agitator into the slots. The new belt will stretch slightly to allow you to set the agitator in the slots.

  5. Position the vacuum head cover back on top of the head and push down until the tabs snap into position. Turn the vacuum head upside down. Install the two securing screws into the front edge of the cover on the bottom of the vacuum head. Turn the head right-side up.
