Q:

Kenmore Model 11640523 In House Vacuum--motor hums -- no more suction????

A:

It can upset the entire household routine when the vacuum stops working. While you wait for the expert answer, I did find a troubleshooting site for models like yours and also the schematics for your model to show how things are connected. If you do decide you would like to schedule a home visit by an expert technician, an option is to visit Sears Home Services and use the handy scheduler. Hope this helps!

Thanx, Barbara H. I am one of those real handy guys and will most likely fix the blasted thing myself. I found two items relating to this Kenmore Model 11640523: ie: Parts web pg. Motor and attached housing # 569184 for $299.99 OR Motor alone--#4369629 for $129.99. I'm thinking just the motor but may be something other in the electronics???

Thank you for your question.

  • It sounds like you are correct. The motor sounds like it has a motor brush that is not making good contact on the motor commutator. Because of the age of this unit the brushes may be worn out.

  • I am sorry to say that the brush kit for this motor is no longer available.

  • The replacement motor is available 569184, however the motor is about $300.00 and I guess I would think twice about that.

  • My suggestion is that you remove the motor and take it to a motor shop or a good hardware store to see if you can find some universal brushes that will fit.

  • The other option is to order the motor.

I included a link for SearsPartsDirect.com www.searspartsdirect.com if you choose to order that motor.

Thanx, Sam A! I did order a brush from Sears Website. Interestingly the picture shows a pair of them but the description says (1) brush. It will be interesting to see what I get. There were two brush model nos. shown, not sure why, but we will see what happens. I will let you know! Cal Herbst
