Q:

Kenmore Model 116.36932502 Agitator not turning - how to troubleshoot agitator motor 116.36932502

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your vacuum. Upon researching model316791191; not having the roller brush running can be a concern, there are a few things we can check to see why it is not operating. First check the reset button on the top of the base unit. It may have tripped. Push to reset.

Before disassemble please

REMOVE POWER

from the vacuum.

If that is set then we will need to remove the 10 screws at the bottom of the base by turning the unit over and locating and removing all ten screws and then lift off the base assembly. If you have a Volt/Ohm meter you can check for continuity resistance in the motor circuit.

Set your meter to the RX1 ohm scale and check the thermal overload which is the flat reed like piece on top of the motor. This motor runs on 170 volts DC.

Check the continuity across the motor brushes.

Check the continuity across the overload protector.

If all these checks are ok it will indicate that the PCB board that powers the brush motor is bad and it is located up in the dust box suction motor housing.

This is a difficult place to get to so I would suggest at this point you take the unit in to be serviced.

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.

Q:

What are the step-by-step instructions for replacing the motor on Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum model 118.36932502?

A:

The model number you sent does not come up in our system. I searched for a model 116.36932502 and took the information from that model. If the information I am sending doesn't work for your vacuum, confirm the model number and send another email. We will be glad to help.

This vacuum has a motor that drives the roller brush in the nozzle and a motor for the suction of the vacuum. I am sending you the instructions for replacing the suction motor.

Before you replace the motor check the filters in the vacuum. I am sending you the instructions for replacing the filters also.
