Model #11629429990 motor sparks 11629429990 Kenmore Canister vacuum cleaner

A:

I can understand your concern over the motor in your vacuum sparking. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did some research on the unit. At this time, I was unable to locate information that would be helpful in regards to your question. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner.

I did remove and put back the motor's brushes which have lots of life left. I blew compressed air into the motor housing and lots of dust came out. After reassembling the motor, it works well but still produces the "burning" smell.

If that burning smell is coming from the canister, then you may still have a problem with that motor and it may need to be replaced.

If the burning smell is coming from the PowerMate floor unit then you may need to check the belt and agitator as shown on page 14 and 15 of the manual.  Here is a link for the owner's manual in case you need it: Kenmore Vacuum Cleaner Model 116.29429990 Owner's Manual. You may have hair or lint caught in the brush support as shown on page 15. Cleaning that area may eliminate the burning smell if it is coming from the PowerMate.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

Thanks for the reply! The smell is coming from the canister. Sears shows that a replacement motor is not available anymore. However, the motor is just wedged into the space, not bolted in, so does anyone know if another motor that would be available now could be used, instead? All the motor assembly does is pull air, so I hope another would work.

Hello Bill. I checked for a replacement motor that would be compatible with that model. I did not find a motor available that will likely fit and work properly.

Q:

my cannister vacuum model number 11629429990/116.59429990

A:

Diagrams of an appliance can be helpful. If the manual did not provide what was needed, you might check the schematics at Sears Parts Direct. I attached the link for your model. By clicking on the image needed, then scrolling over the image you can see the exploded view of the parts. If there is some specific part for repair or replacement needed, if you can add a bit more detail to this thread it will help the expert provide a better answer. Hope this helps!

I am sorry to tell you that we don't have a picture of a model 116.29429990 vacuum cleaner. We have some vacuums we could take a picture of, but they are not complete with the hose, handle, and power mate.

If there is a particular area you need a picture of, reply on this thread and I will be glad to help.

Q:

How can I take apart my Kenmore canister vacuum?

A:

The motor is usually serviced as an assembly and replaced as an assembly. The 4370604 motor is available but it is not taken apart and serviced. If the motor is bad then replacing it is most likely the only option.

There is no service manual for download or purchase for this dishwasher but I am including an owner's manual in the following link: Owner's Manual .

The section of changing the belt may help you access the motor.

I hope this information is helpful to you but submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.
