Question and Answers

Q:

I have Kenmore vacuum 116.27915700. The Powermate Motor and light won't shut, but the canister motor seems to work fine. What's wrong?

A:

I know that it can be very frustrating to have problems with you vacuum cleaner, especially when you need to use it. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I was about to find a link that will provide some helpful information. This include not only the instructions for replacing the hose swivel, but it include pictures of what the wires should look like. Since you problem did not begin until you change it, it is possible the one of the wires is malfunctioning or incorrect. I hope this helps.

Thanks, but these are the instructions and photos I used as a guide. The wires seem okay. The canister is responding normally. The Powermate is always on (as soon as the vacuum is plugged in the wall) and does not respond to the controls.

Thank you for your question on the vacuum running as soon as you plug it into the wall.

During the incident with the hose connector shorting it damages the internal motor control board on the inside of the canister. It sounds like the triac on the motor controller board got shorted out.

You will need to replace that control board.

Vacuum PCB motor controller .

You will need to remove the motor canopy to gain access to the motor control board.

I have given you some instructions to help you with the repair below.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for the help. This looks pretty straight forward. I've ordered the PCB Assembly. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again.

Hi! I have a Kenmore canister vacuum (progressive) model 11627915700 that is 6 years old. motor/suction works great. the rotating carpet brush + light at the bottom, do not work. it will work in and out as I lower the hose down to the ground but not consistently. belt is ok, rotating brush is clean, and I tried the reset button as well with no success. when I press the option of "carpet high", usually there's a light on the pole that turns on. it doesn't either. thanks!

Q:

How to relace terminal cover (electrical connector) on Kenmore vacuum cleaner Wand 116.27915700

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your vacuum and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number 11627915700 and on the sides of the top of the upper wand there is two tabs that holds the cover for the release button. Use a small flat bladed screwdriver to pry up the cover to release from the back plasitic sleeve.

Once you have that cover and button removed, use the slide button release that extends and retracks the wand and set to about the mid-setting.
Locate the two tabs, one on each side of the slide release and use a flat bladed screwdriver in the tab slot and pry out the locking tabs.

Once you have the tabs removed you can tap the back plastic cover down about a half inch to release its location from the top cover.

You can then remove the cover and expose the ribbon strip that plugs into the part you are replacing. I hope this information helps with your repair and If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information.

Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.
