The diagrams did NOT give instructions on how to replace the hose and were 24 hours late. Obviosly the person answering the question had no technical knowledge and was just looking at manuals. STUPID way to run a business!!! i found the answer in 5 minutes on U-Tube. sears should be so smart. I'm glad I am still able to get parts. THAT department was VERY helpful. That lady knew her stuff and her customers. 'nuff said! T Burgeson

Q:

Vacuum cord reel 1162461290 Kenmore Vacuum cleaner

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is problems with the vacuum.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Kenmore Vacuum cleaner model number 1162461290.

Hope this helps.

Unplug your vacuum cleaner's power cord from the wall outlet for safety. Grip the cord a few inches from the hole in the vacuum cleaner that it will feed into. Give a sharp tug on the power cord. Release the cord so it will re-engage the winding mechanism. Feed the cord back into the vacuum cleaner until the plug stops at the hole.

2.  Remove the vacuum cleaner's plug from your walls outlet. Have the beam of a flashlight on the hole where the cord enters into the vacuum cleaner. With your fingers, remove loose dirt or other contaminants sticking in the hole. Wind a double-sided tape around the eraser end of a pencil. Place the pencil, with the eraser end first, into the sides of the hole. Twist the pencil clockwise as your circle the inside of the hole, around the cord, to adhere contaminants inside to the double-sided tape. Remove the pencil and then discard it and the contaminants in the trash. Give the cord a tug to re-engage the winding mechanism, which will pull the cord into y0our vacuum cleaner.

3.  Unplug the vacuum cleaner's power cord from the wall outlet. With a screwdriver, remove the screws from the panel surrounding the hole that the cord enters. Pull the panel off. Play the beam of a flashlight into the compartment the panel covered so that you can see the winding spool that the cord is wrapped around. Push any cord that is snagged against an inside corner of the compartment away from the side. Remove any dust balls or any other contaminants with your fingers that are inside the panel. Shake the can of lubricating spray for around  five seconds. Place the included plastic straw on the nozzle of the can. Spray a two-second burst of lubrication onto the spool. Rotate the spool   counterclockwise with your fingers to loosen your cord. Spray another two-second burst. Replace the panel and reattach the screws. Wipe the cord with a paper towel. Grip the cord a few inches away form the hole. Give the cord a tug to engage the winding mechanism. Feed the cord through your fingers as it goes back into the vacuum cleaner.

Unfortunately the *.gif resolution for the line drawings and text is so low that I cannot read it. The photos show up just fine. I have tried to download the *.gif document, but it is no better. Can you provide the link where it exists. I saw previous answers to a similar question, but the posted pages were not visible on the PartsDirect site. I tried the chat site but all they were capable of was ordering parts. I already know what I need, I just what to be sure I can take it apart before I destroy something that cannot be replaced.

Natasha12 I really appreciate your working this issue, but the line drawings still cannot be read -- nor can they be expanded and be read. As I noted before, the photos are fine (on both sites), but of little use without the words from the line drawings. Can you actually read the line drawings on this page? If so, what is the resolution on your screen? The link to 1162461290 is no better than the one you provided. What is your source for the line drawings? They are obviously coming from somewhere. Can we access the digital source?
