Q:

Need hose assembly for Kenmore vacuum cleaner model 1162148590

A:

The vacuum clean is definitely a necessity. It can be quite frustrating when parts become no longer available. Your expert will be able to give you a detailed answer to see if there is another hose assembly you can use. It may take two business days.

I know that it can be very frustrating when you can not find the right parts for your vacuum. However, the new hose assemblies that are available will not work with this model. They are either too large or too small for the connection. I would recommend at this time that you replace the vacuum. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I understand what you are saying and why. However, I view it as a reflection of our disposable society that we can't reliably supply parts for something like this. I'm sure if I take it to a vacuum cleaner repair shop (yes, there is one not too far away) they could make one for me, possibly using the good components of the one I have. Since it's only the hose itself that is dead (and those aren't available), maybe something could be cobbled together. Whether that would be cost effective or not, I don't know. I'm disappointed. I really thought you might be able to do more than look at the same list of parts I looked at and tell me the part is not available.

Q:

How do I replace the vacuum cleaner hose into the hose assembly once I order the part?

A:

You can order the hose separately but I do not think that the parts counter people will take the assembly apart and replace the hose for you. There are no specific written procedures for replacing the hose. The hose on this vacuum is held on swivel assembly and the tube by an adapter. This adapter is secured by clips on each side that are positioned along the plastic seam of the adapter. The first image below shows the clip on the swivel assembly that must be released. The third image shows the clip on the adapter. If you are able to twist the adapter and release the clips, you can pull the adapter down the hose and release the hose. This is a very tight fit. Most of the time, you have to release these clips by using small flat tip screw drivers as shown in the second image below. It is often easier to buy the hose assembly if it is available rather that switching out the hose. If you do buy just the hose, these tips should help you replace it.

I have a Kenmore vacuum cleaner model 1162148090. I recently order the hose 4368990, not realizing that it would come without the adapters AND without any directions. It appears that the hose is only available without the adapters. So I was very happy to find this information. One additional question: once I get it the old hose detached from the adapters, will it be obvious how to connect the three wires sticking out of each end of the new hose?
