Q:

Model Year 113796810 Craftsman Vacuum-shredder-bagger

A:

The serial number appears to be missing a digit at the front. The first 2 digits of the serial number indicate the year of production. The second 3 digits indicate the day of the year that the item was produced. If there is not another digit in front of the "5" then that vac was manufactured in 1952 according to that serial number.

I checked for a manual. I did not find one available for that older vac. The vac could have been manufactured in 1987 but that is not likely. The items that were manufactured before 1987 all have that 1987 year as the date that the document was entered into our computer system at Sears. It was definitely manufactured in 1987 or before that. The serial number date code is based on 5 numeric digits before the "P".

Q:

Service Repair for Vacuum-Shredder-Bagger model #113.796810 Engine# 143.354292 113.796810 for vacuum/shredder & 143.354292 for engine

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com. I can definitely understand the concern with being able to get the parts for the repair and how that equates to the charges for the service.

To be completely honest, the Experts on this site are not in the Repair & Service department, so we don't have internal knowledge on how that situation would be remedied if it did occur. It would be best to get clarification on those questions from the Service department before the technician comes out for the repair. The engine used on this shredder vac is a Tecumseh, which has since gone out of business, and parts will be sporadic at best, depending on the stock level.

To address the issue you are experiencing. Does it appear to just be gas coming out of the muffler, or gas and oil as a mixture?  Check the oil in the engine for gasoline. If there is gas in the crankcase, don't run the engine until it has been drained and refilled.

Gas getting into the crankcase is caused by the float needle in the carburetor not turning off the gas. The float might be bad or the seat the needle closes into might have debris in it. When this occurs, the extra fluid has no where to go but out of the exhaust.

You should also go ahead and pull the plug and check to see if it's fouled, it you've got gas coming out of the muffler, it is more than likely fouled and will need replacement. Chances are, you will need a carburetor rebuild kit to solve the issue. You will more than likely need to perform an oil change and a plug change.

The entire carburetor is no longer available, however, the carburetor rebuild kit is still in stock. If you would need the rebuild kit, I have included a blue link below that you may click on to be directed to the PartsDirect page to view and purchase the kit. I have also included a link for the plug.

In order to get clarification on the credit for the service if parts are not available, I would recommend calling 1-800-469-4663 and ask to speak with Lawn & Garden Repair Service, or click here to be directed to Sears Home Services web page.

Hopefully this information helps and let us know if we can be of any further assistance. Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when needing a muffler for your engine. I did look into the model number you have given me and found the muffler for the specific model number you gave. Click here to purchase the muffler. Did you need any other parts for your unit?

Thank you for your question. Have  a great day.

Thank you no other parts needed. Unfortunately the shipping charges are more than the purchase price of the muffler. I'll look elsewhere for a replacement with more reasonable terms.

I own this model and when I try to start it... the gas starts pouring out of the muffler? If I bring it in for service, will they be able to service this model and get the exact parts I need? Are the parts in stock at the service center? If not will they be able to find them and will I have to pay shipping charges if they have to order them to repair my vacuum-shredder-bagger... model 113795810?
