Q:

How can I free up the bearing in the spindle of my Craftsman lathe model 113.238180?

A:

A morse taper is designed to lock in place and not spin. If #27 is a "center" on a morse tapered shank, be sure it is a live center that spins on bearings and not a dead center that has no moving parts. Dead centers are more often used in spindles that spin, and live centers are in tail stocks that don't.

By what you have stated the bearings in the spindle have seized. The bearings in the spindle cannot be replaced. You need to replace the whole spindle assembly. I tried to price the spindle and it is no longer available. You should be able to order one from a wood working supply company. You can use any spindle that has a number 1 taper.
