I just found out this saw was recalled, and was mad as hell since I had also never seen the recall on the Sears site, only through word of mouth some 20+ years on. I lost the end of my index finger due to this very problem, and since I registered my product (a long, long time agao at purchase, I have never been notifieed of a recall and only found this thanks to someone pointing i out in a forum. The fact is, the $100 check is a rebate check and a joke if you suffered an injury like I did. I just sent off my 3rd email about this, as my saw is in near mint condition and has been well cared for. I only found the recall last week by pure accident, even though I registered my product like I do with all my tools. The kick in the teeth is that to even find workable parts, the price tag runs well over $600 as far as I can tell, and if the parts are not available, a new saw like this is between $1000-$1500. Instead of a check for a measly $100, how about covering the cost of a new finger tip Sears? Do they even understand the pain, loss and work issues a guy goes through after something like this? And at the time, they basically skirted the issue and made me feel like I had been the one at fault. Not cool.
