Question and Answers

Q:

Dryer will not get hot 11098575820 Kenmore Washer/dryer

A:

Thank You for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com. I do apologize for the delay in answering your question.

First I recommend checking for a tripped breaker. This dryer will run just fine on 120 volts but won't heat unless it gets the full 240 volts. If the breaker seems ok, the problem could be with a thermostat, thermal cutoff, timer contact or motor switch. If any of these components show to be open, it will need to be replaced. However, the motor switch will not close until the motor is running. I recommend having a technician make this check. A meter will be needed to check these components.

If you need further assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details. Thanks for visiting SearsPartsDirect.com

Q:

Why won't my Kenmore washer dryer combination start

A:

Thank you for your question. I am sorry you are having problems with this combo. No power at all does usually point toward the circuit breaker, outlet or fuses. It is unusual that both the washer and the dryer would individually not start. Humming normally comes from a motor.  In this case, the dryer and washer each have motors. I would start with the voltage coming into the outlet or outlets. If you have a meter and are comfortable making checks, I recommend using this video to help check the voltage.  It may be coincidence that the dryer and washer stopped at same time. Resistance checks to the wiring and motors of both will be needed. Remember to disconnect power to the unit before any service or repair. I recommend opening the control panel and checking the push to start switch and wiring harness. It is possible something has come loose or needs repair. See key #18 and #1 in the image below. I see this unit is from 1994/1995.  If you feel it is time for a replacement, you can check a wide selection at Sears .  If you would like to check the availability of parts before tackling a repair, you can view those available for this model at Sears Parts Direct . If you would like a little help with diagnosis and repair, you can schedule a technician at Sears Home Services. If further help is needed, please reply.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Hi KC,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

In order to give you accurate and complete information on your dryer I will need the model number. The model number should be located inside the loading door or on the back panel.

I recommend checking the wiring and connections first. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or to purchase any parts needed; Sears Parts Direct .

If you would like specific help with your dryer, please reply to this post with the model number and more details.

Hi KC,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

From your description, for this type of dryer the most likely cause of this issue is loose wiring at the door switch or a bad motor. The first thing I recommend is checking the wire connections at the timer, motor, and door switch. Also ensure that the motor is not covered in lint and debris buildup. I am including images below that should help you with disassembly (this dryer is a little different than the images, but it will help as a rough guide). Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. I am including the wiring diagram as well.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: [ Sears Home Services | http://sevices.sears.com/shs/category/repair?MML=MMLxexpertxmerch ] .

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here, and if I may be of further assistance, include more details in a reply to this post.
