Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The heater box is nothing more than a duct routing the hot air from the burner into the drum. It can not fail.

Based on your symptom and details it could have weak solenoid coils if you see the igniter glowing and fading off without any burner ignition. If the glow bar igniter is not glowing then it could have one of the following components:

  • Hi-limit thermostat (key#15)
  • Operating thermostat (key#8)
  • Thermal fuse (key#9)
  • Flame Sensor (key#27)
  • Broken Igniter (key#87)

I added an image below with the heater/gas valve circuit traced in red and green. Each one of the circled components must have continuity in order to complete the voltage path to the igniter.

There is small plastic inspection hole cover located below the dryer door that can be pried out in order to watch the glow bar igniter and burner operation.

Remove the inspection cover and start the dryer. Watch and monitor the glow bar igniter and burner operation for at least 5-10 minutes so you may want to pull up a chair and position it so that you can see through the opening. If you find the glow bar igniter glowing bright red and then fading off without any burner ignition, this would indicate weak solenoid coils. Both solenoid coils will need to be removed and replaced. You will need to remove the front panel in order to access the solenoid coils, the igniter and the flame sensor.

You will need to remove the rear panel in order to access the high limit thermostat, operating thermostat and the thermal fuse. I added an image with key numbers in order to reference the part location. Each one of these parts will need to disconnected and tested for continuity if the igniter is not glowing. If the igniter is glowing and then fading off without any burner ignition, replace both solenoid coils mounted on the gas valve.

I also added a video of how to check the continuity of the components and how to remove the front panel .

Be sure to disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing your dryer. Parts can be looked up and ordered from Sears PartsDirect
