A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your details it sounds like you were shipped the wrong thermostat. The part number of the operating thermostat with the built in bias heater is #3387134 and not #660036. The thermostat should have 4 terminals and not 3.

Q:

I have a gas dryer made by Kenmore, model number 97478100, and it wont heat up. Can you help me?

A:

In reference to your Kenmore gas dryer, model number 110.97478100:

All dryers have some means to turn the heat off for cycles where heat is not wanted.

When set to Air Dry, Air Fluff or No Heat Dry :

  • The dryer takes too long to dry the clothes
  • Runs but only blows air
  • Does not heat

If the dryer is not set to Air Dry, Air Fluff or No Heat Dry follow check list below:

  • Check other gas appliances to see if they are heating:
    • Gas range- Turn on burners.
    • Water heater- see if pilot is lit (if equipped with pilot).
    • Gas heat- Check for heat when turned on.
    • If using propane, verify tank is not empty.
  • The gas dryer heats with a gas burner, make sure the gas supply line valve is open.
    • See image below, showing the "ON" and "OFF" positions of the gas supply line valve.

Q:

What are possible causes of a gas dryer (model 11097478100) no longer heating?

A:

You could have a gas valve problem. Several other failures could also prevent your dryer from heating. Here are some troubleshooting tips:

Check your gas supply. Make sure the cutoff valve is turned on. Observe the burner assembly and see if the igniter is glowing. Also observe it to see if it cycles off periodically. If the igniter is not glowing, here are several components that could be interrupting the power supply to it: The TCO (Thermal Cut-Off) fuse could be blown. You could have a failed high limit thermostat. The operating thermostat could be bad. Some dryers have a heater relay. This relay could have failed. Wiring could be broken or disconnected in the circuit. If the igniter glows and never cycles off, the flame sensor could be stuck in a closed position. It can also prevent voltage from reaching the igniter if it is open. If the igniter is cycling on and off, you could have bad gas valve coils or a mechanical failure in the gas valves.
