Q:

Kenmore HE5 pulley replacement. 11097087601 (HE5)

Q:

Follow-Up Info from Yesterday on dryer not heating properly 11097087601 Kenmore Elite Dryer

A:

Your symptoms indicate that you have weak gas valve coils. The coils are barely strong enough to open the gas valves from a cold start. Once the dryer heats up, the gas valve coils are too weak to open the gas valves.

I recommend that you replace the gas valve coils. There is a kit available that has both coils (part number 279834).

Here is a link for a repair guide that shows how to replace the gas valve coils in a similar type of dryer: How to Replace the Gas Valve Coils in a Dryer. Note: Your dryer is slightly different than the one shown in that repair guide. To access the valve coils in your model of dryer, remove the bottom front service panel. Unplug the dryer and shut off the gas supply before beginning this repair.

To remove the bottom front service panel, remove the screws at the very bottom of the front service panel and then pull the bottom of that service panel forward slightly and then off of the dryer.

Once you replace those gas valve coils, the dryer should heat properly.

Thanks for the expert advice. The new coils did the trick. The old coil with the two terminals had the proper resistance when the coil was cool and was open when warm, hence the intermittent problem.
