Q:

How do I run a diagnostics test on my dryer? 11097086601 Kenmore Elite Dryer

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when having trouble with the dryer.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Kenmore Dryer model number  110.97086601.

INFORMATION PER TECHNICAL MANUAL:

DIAGNOSTIC GUIDE:
Before servicing, check the following:
1.  Make sure there is power at the plug in at the wall.
2.  Has a household fuse blown or circuit breaker tripped?
     Time delay fuse?
3.  Is the dryer vent properly installed and clear of lint or
     obstructions?
4.  All tests/checks should be made with a VOM (volt -
     ohm-milliammeter or DVM (digital-voltmeter) having
a sensitivity of 20,000 ohms per volt DC or greater.
5.  Check all connections before replacing components.
Look for broken or loose wires, failed terminals, or
wires not pressed into connectors far enough.
6.  A potential cause of a control not functioning is
corrosion on connections.  Observe connections and
check for continuity with an ohmmeter.
7.  Connectors:  Look at top of connector.  Check for
broken or loose wires.  Check for wires not pressed
into connector far enough to engage metal barbs.
8.  Resistance checks must be made with dryer unplug-
     ged or power disconnected.

DIAGNOSTIC TESTS:

These tests allow service personnel to test and verify all
inputs to the machine control electronics.  You may want to do a quick and overall checkup of the dryer with these tests befor going to specific trouble shooting tests.

ACTIVATING THE SERVICE DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE:

1. Be sure the dryer is in standby mode (plugged in with
all indicators off, or with only the Clothes Dry indicator
    on).
2.  Select any one button (except stop) and follow the
steps below, using the same button (remember the
     button):

press/hold  2 seconds -> Release for 2 seconds ->  Press/hold for 2 seconds -> release for 2 seconds ->press hold for 2 seconds.

3.  If this test mode has been entered successfully, all
indicators on the console are illuminated for 5 sec-
onds with 8:88 showing in the Estimated Time Remaining three-digit display.  If there are no saved fault codes or active fault codes, all indicators on the console will momentarily turn off, then stay on with 8:88 displayed.  Continue with Diagnostics.

4.  If entry into diagnostic mode is unsuccessful, choose a different button (except stop) and repeat step 2.

If there is an active fault code, it will be flashing in the display.   Just need to write back and let us know what that code is.

Q:

No power at power button 11097086601 Kenmore Elite Dryer

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your dryer is not working properly. I did look into the model number you have provided and I have found information to assist you.  The problem could be with the board itself or it could be with the door switch not making contact. If the door switch is not sensing that the door is closed then it will prevent your dryer from starting.

Click here for the door switch.

When you hit the start button does it beep and not start?

The door switch may have 3 wires on it. Usually there would be a white, blue and brown wire.

The white is common or neutral while the blue wire goes to the motor. The brown wire goes to the drum light.

The switch can be checked with an ohm meter

If it is not the door switch then it will either be lint stuck in the lint duct or in the switch, or it could be the thermal fuse, or the control board.

If that does not do the trick then I do recommend a technician to take a look at your unit.

You can also visit searpartsdirect.com for parts, diagrams, and repair information.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for your question. Have a great day.

Q:

My dryer runs but does not heat up? I replaced the igniter bar but it still does not work? 11097086601 Kenmore Elite Dryer

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is trouble with the dryer.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Kenmore Dryer model number 110.97086601.

First thing for safety and concerns to keep dryer running well is to check the lint screen and vent of air flow going out of the house.   If clogged up it could cause heating problems on any dryer.

To prevent a Blocked Vent Hood, once a year:

1.  Clean any lint blockage from the exhaust vent hood.
2.  Make sure the vent hood flappers move freely.
3.  Check for screen/grate openings that allow bird or rodent nests.
4.  Replace exhaust vent hood if damaged.
5.  Check for good air flow while running the dryer.
Note: Poor airflow or decreased airflow indicates further vent system cleaning is needed.

The ignitor should be glowing red.   Also the dryer button should be making a sound click if not working.

Also you might of blew the thermistor and the thermal fuse which is behind the blower.   Maybe the problem because when an item blows then most likely the fuse blows too.   Can be checked with an ohm meter.

I have a picture of the items below so you can see where they are located.  Look in lower right  hand side of picture behind blower.   Key number 42 which is the thermistor.  The thermal fuse is right beside it and sorry to say but a non illustrated picture showing.   But on your dryer it is in the same territory of the thermostat.
