Question and Answers

Q:

Why wont my dryer heat up?

A:

The heating element requires 220-240 volts in order to heat. The dryer will run on 110-120 volts if one of the two circuit breakers dedicated for the dryer trips. I recommend locating the two house circuit breakers dedicated for the dryer and reset both breakers by flipping them both OFF and back ON 2-3 times and then recheck the dryer for heat. If it continues to not heat the failure could be one of many components connected in series with the heating element.

  • Thermal cutoff
  • Operating thermostat
  • Hi Limit thermostat
  • Heater

The heating element and the other components can be accessed by removing the lower rear panel. Disconnect the power cord from the power source and disconnect one component at a time. You will need an Ohm meter to check the continuity of each component until you find one no showing any continuity. Be sure to disconnect both wires from the component be tested for continuity.
