Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I understand how frustrating it can be when the buzzer keeps going off. First, make sure that the start switch is not stuck. Turn the dial to timed cycle mode and see if it starts without puching the start button. If it starts, then your push-to-start switch may be stuck. Take the knob and dial off and replace to see if that will fix the problem.
Again, turn the dial to timed cycle mode and see if it starts. If it does, open the door while it is running. If the tub continues to tumble with the door open, the motor may have a stuck contact and will need to be fixed. If it stops when the door opens, the timer may have a stuck contact and will need to be replaced.
If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services

Lokelani, you were right on with the start switch suggestion. And if I had remembered that jiggling it the first time the problem arose was what it took to resolve it temporarily, I would have gone straight to it. Anyway, thank you a bunch for setting me on the correct path - I'm just glad it wasn't the timer gone bad. I have a switch ordered and when it comes in, will have the dryer silenced in just a few short minutes. Richard

Q:

My Kenmore Heavy Duty 80 Series dryer (model #110.96580810) will completely shut off after only a couple minutes of use.

A:

When the Kenmore dryer will not stay running, it will be a long day before the clothes get dry, and that can be frustrating. The link provided below is on a similar issue. Hope this information helps while an expert responds with additional information.

I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your dryer. Based on the information you supplied the symptom indicates a motor issue. It sounds like the motor is overheating and shutting off on the built in motor thermal protector. Once the motor cools down the thermal protector will reset and will run again until the thermal protector opens and shuts the motor off again. The motor could be covered in lint causing it to overheat too.

The failure is likely the motor unless there is friction issue with the drum rotating. I would suggest that you have a technician diagnose and repair this for your.
