Thank You for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com

I can understand the urgency to get this fixed. You don't want your dryer to over heat from constantly running. After researching your model I do agree this sounds like a timer problem. Does this do this on every cycle? (ie more dry vs timed cycle) If this only continues to run on the more dry cycle then it may be the moisture sensor as well. I look forward to your response.

Thanks for using ManageMyLife.com

Thanx for your repsonse, Desirea. The dryer will continue to run, non-stop, through all cycles. The only way to stop it is to open the door! Looks like I'm in for a new timer assembly.

Thank you for your feedback. It does sound like the timer. Before you make this repair, you may want to test it. You can do that with a multi-tester. I will be happy to talk you through the test.

SAFETY WARNING: Be sure to disconnect power to the dryer before beginning the test or repair. Also, parts inside the dryer may have sharp edges that can cause serious cuts. Use caution or wear thick gloves.

Set the timer to normal dry. Then open up the back of the control panel so that you can see the timer. There will be a number of wires connected to it. Locate the wires that deliver power to the timer. (They are usually slightly larger in size then the other wires.) Using a pair of needlenose pliers, remove one of the power connectors, DON'T pull on the wire. Set your multi-tester to read ohms. Depending on your model, it will usually be R1 or RX1. Touch one probe to the terminal from which you removed the wire. Touch the other probe to one of the other terminals. You should get a zero reading. A high reading indicates the motor is bad and you will need to replace the timer. I have included the link to order the timer for you. It has been substituted by the manufacturer and may look a little different than the original.

I posted a wiring diagram for that dryer in the first image below. Note: Since you are on the Sears PartsDirect website, you will probably not be able to view the images through that format. You can copy and paste this URL into your browser to visit the Manage My Life website and view the images: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/questions/337370-kenmore-dryer-regulate-heat-properly-11096284800

The heating circuit is traced in red and green on that wiring diagram. You indicated that you replaced the bio thermal cut and the dryer still overheats. I am not sure which component you are describing. The second image below shows the operating thermostat, the thermal cut-off fuse and the high limit thermostat in the dryer. These are the components that regulate the heat in the dryer. If that thermal cut-off fuse was blown, then the dryer will not heat at all. If you did not replace the operating thermostat, then that is your most likely failure in this situation. There is a chance that you have a heating element that is shorted out to the metal cabinet. This would cause the element to heat constantly. You can unplug the dryer and visibly check the heating element. The third image shows how to remove the bottom front service panel to access the heating element and other components. If that element is okay, then you can probably fix this problem by replacing the operating thermostat (assuming that you have not already replaced that component).

The electronic control component governs the advancement of the timer and does not affect the drying circuit.

You can view and order parts for the dryer on this page: Kenmore Dryer Model 110.96284800 Repair Parts. Be sure that you unplug the dryer before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem finding the manual. I have searched for the manual but due to the age of the dryer, it is no longer available. I also searched online for a copy of the manual but did not find one. I am sorry, all that is available is the feature sheet.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
