Question and Answers

Q:

Burner does not ignite 11095862402 Kenmore Elite Residential dryer

A:

Thank you for your question to SearsPartsDirect.com and for being a valued member.

I apologize your experiencing another problem with your Kenmore Elite Gas Dryer Model Number 11095862402. These gas dryers do have burner ignitors, they also have ignition coils. These two parts work hand in hand. Gas dryers work by blowing air through a burner which then heats the air, using a gas valve, ignitor and a sensor. Within the ignitor are two ignition coils that function to take energy from the ignitor and channel it into opening the gas valve so then the gas can flow through. When the dryer is turned on, the  power is sent  to the ignitor and it starts to get hot. Heat from the ignitor then heats the sensor which opens a circuit, applying power to the ignitor coil. Current flows through the coil, opening the gas valve and the gas is ignited. The heat continues to keep current flowing through the coil until the dryer's control thermostat cycles off, stopping the circuit to the gas burner assembly so the coils lose their power and gas flow is shut off.

If the ignition coils in gas dryers can go bad. Test them by checking the ignitor when the dryer is on. If the ignitor glows for several seconds when powered up, then goes out, the problem is probably the ignition coil. Use a multimeter to test the coil for resistance. If the reading stays at infinity or is substantially different from 1,300 ohms, it is an indication the coils need to be replaced.

I have attached a link to the burner assembly diagrams. The ignitor is key #4 the ignition coils are key numbers #13 and #14

Q:

Lack of heat 11095862402 Kenmore Elite Residential dryer

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your dryer. Upon researching model 11095862402; there could be lint build up in the dry or the exhaust hose. It would restrict airflow and cause the heat to turn off. It could be a thermostat issue if the unit is cleaned out.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

Q:

Kenmore Elite HE4 gas dryer won't get hot 11095862402

A:

Two issues may still be preventing the burner from igniting. You could have an air flow problem or a gas supply deficiency. If you have not checked your gas supply that is provided to the dryer, I recommend that you check that first. You may need a gas technician to help you safely check that issue. Your owner's manual has specifications for the gas supply.

Note: If your gas supply is adequate and the exhaust vent system is clear, let the dryer run for 15 or 20 minutes to see if it will start heating. It sometimes takes a while for the air to be worked out of the gas supply lines before the burner will ignite.

If you have not checked the exhaust vent air path, I recommend that you check that as well. Make sure the vent path is clear from the back of the dryer to the outside of your home. Clean the lint screen with water and a soft bristled brush to remove fabric softener residue that is difficult to see but will restrict exhaust air flow. Make sure that you completely reassemble the dryer before testing it. The burner will often not ignite if tested with the bottom front service panel removed. Fill the dryer with a medium load of wet clothes when testing it.

Since the igniter glows and then shuts off to initiate the lighting of the burner, most of the components in the heating system of the dryer are apparently okay. There is a chance that you could have defective gas valves. You indicated that you replaced the coils. That usually fixes a problem with gas valves that are not working properly. If none of the above tips help, then you may need to replace the gas valve assembly. Be sure that you unplug the dryer and shut off the gas supply before accessing internal components and replacing parts.
