A:

It can be very aggravating when the display on your washer will no longer work. I did some research and provided a link to a similar question and answer on our site. I hope this will shed a little more light on the issue until the Expert responds to your question in more detail within 24 to 48 hours.

It may be fixable but most parts are no longer available for this older machine. Your best bet is a broken or loose connection. You would start by checking 120 volts to the relay board. The relay board is part key 17 in the image below. I can't provide wiring since that information is on stone tablets. On the relay control is a RP3 connection with a black and white wire. Across the black and white wire should be 120 volts. You will need a meter to check this and only do this if you are comfortable checking voltage with a meter. I believe it is possible to have the relay control rebuilt but it can not be ordered new. A technician would be needed to have the control rebuilt. I believe replacing such parts would be more expensive that the washer is worth. Replacing the washer might be a better option. I hope this helps. You can reply with any additional details for further assistance.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the agitator was going slower than usual" but if the bottom portion of the agitator is not agitating then the most likely cause of the problem would be the transmission or motor coupler. If the bottom part of the agitator is working but the top half is not then the problem can be stripped agitator "dogs." The no spin problem can be a lid switch or clutch problem. Does the washer drain the water out? If you reply with a few more details I may be able to help you with this problem.

Hi Barbara,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I know how frustrating it can be when appliances do not function properly.

From your description the most likely cause of this issue is the user interface (key switch). This part is no longer available from any of our sources. It is in your best interest to replace the washer.

If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post. Thanks again for using Manage My Life.
