Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my Kenmore top load washer spin properly?

A:

This model of washer does not use a drive belt. It has a direct drive transmission.

Set the washer to start a cycle. Let it fill and check to see if it is agitating properly. If it is not agitating and you hear the hum of the motor similar to the spin cycle, you could have a broken motor coupler. The following link of a previous answer discusses this type of washer repair: How do I replace the motor coupling on my Kenmore washer?

NOTE: Your console is different than the one mentioned in the above link. You do not have to pull off plastic end caps from each side of your console. The screws on your console should be visible in the front of the console.

If your washer agitates properly, you could have a worn clutch, bad transmission, failed basket drive or a timer problem. Resubmit your question with additional details if you need more help with this washer problem.
