Question and Answers

Q:

Washer doesn't agitate.

A:

It is a huge disappointment when an appliance is not working as it should. I was able to find a link that includes great information for a top load washer that won't agitate. I attached the link below. I hope this is helpful.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on the symptom and details it sounds like it could have a faulty timer or loose wire connection at the timer or motor.

I really do not have enough information in order to fully understand what you mean when you said "it finally would spin and drain". If the timer advances through the wash cycles and it never operates in order to agitate but when it reached the drain and spin cycle it drained and then spun, then I would check for any loose wire connections at the timer. If you do not find any loose connections at the timer, the timer is likely faulty or possible the water level pressure switch. In order for the washer to begin agitating, the pressure switch must close contacts V and T once the water level is satisfied.

You will need an Ohm meter to check the pressure switch operation. Once the tub is full and the water shuts off, disconnect the power cord from the power source and then disconnect the wires from the pressure switch. Check for continuity with the Ohm meter across the V and T terminals. If it does not measure continuity, the pressure switch is faulty. If it does measure continuity, check for a loose or bad connection at the Violet wire and Tan wire at the timer. The control panel can be hinged up and over the rear panel after removing the each screw at the bottom front of each console end cap. After removing the two screws, slide the control panel towards the front and then lift it up and hinge it over the rear panel. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before placing the control panel in the service position.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Why is my washer leaking oil & the gear case jammed?

A:

You should only lean the washer back against the wall not completely over. You will get some oil leaking normally when you lay one over. The black rubber powder shavings are from the motor coupler. I recommend replacing the motor coupler. Please see the images provided for more information.

Q:

Why won't my washer agitate or spin when I hear the motor running?

A:

Your washer does not use a belt, it uses a motor coupler. The motor coupler can fail normally with wear and tear or if the washer is overloaded. I recommend replacing the motor coupler and it will likely operate normally again. It's not likely to have a gear case failure. The motor coupler part number is 285753A.

I added the instructions on how to remove the cabinet and motor in order to access the motor coupler. NOTE: To put the console in the service position will require removing the screw located at the front of each console end cap and then follow the instructions in the images below.
