Question and Answers

Q:

agitation problem 11091565210 Kenmore Automatic washer

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your washer is not working properly.

DIAGNOSTICS:

Spinning and Agitating at the same time: Always a faulty gearcase.
No Agitation – Remove agitator and observe the gearcase shaft. If the motor is running, the shaft is
not oscillating, and the motor coupler is good; replace the gearcase. If the shaft is oscillating, inspect
the agitator splines and agitator dogs for wear.

No Spin Gearcase Diagnosis – Remove the cabinet, install a lid switch bypass, and put the washer
into a spin cycle. Observe the silver Clutch Drum on top of the transmission. If the Clutch Drum is
turning the gearcase is GOOD. If the Clutch Drum is not turning the gearcase is faulty.

No Spin Clutch Diagnosis – Easy check for a failed Clutch: Using a load of wet towels, place the
washer into a spin. If the washer will not spin with a load but will spin empty, and the drive block is
good, the clutch will need to be replaced.
