Question and Answers

Q:

drum not turning

A:

The washer and dryer has become so critical to our everyday lives, it can slow down our normal routine when one stops working. While you wait for the expert answer, a suggestion I have is to check the model number again and enter it into this thread. It is missing some numbers. I did find some general how to information at a web site that may help. I attached below. Another option if you do not feel comfortable making the repair is to visit Sears Home Services and use the handy scheduler. Hope this helps!

Since the motor is running but the drum is not turning, you likely have a broken drive belt. You can check the belt by unplugging the dryer and removing the top panel. You can view the parts list diagram for the dryer on the Sears PartsDirect website. Use the full model number of 110.88722891 to access the parts list diagram for this dryer. It appears that you need to remove 2 screws from the back of the top panel and then you should be able to lift it off of the dryer. There appear to be clips that secure the front of the top panel to the front panel. With the lid off, you should be able to tell whether the drive belt is broken. If it is, you can order a new one from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for the belt is 3394652. To replace the belt, you will need to remove the front panel. I don't have an illustrated procedure for replacing the drive belt or opening the cabinet on this older dryer. It appears that you would need to unplug the lid switch and the wire harness from the front console. Remove the screws from the inside of the cabinet that secure the front panel to the side panels. Pull the front panel off while supporting the drum. With the front panel off, you can remove the broken belt from the cabinet. Place the new belt around the drum and the route it through the idler pulley and around the motor pulley as shown in the image below. Support the drum and position the front panel in place and replace the screws. Reassemble and test the dryer.

Without more specific instructions, you may need to have a service technician replace the belt if it is broken. Here is a link for the Sears Service website in case you need it: Sears Home Services .

Model # (110)84722(891) may be mechanically similar. Has variable temp that 88722 doesn't? I'd appreciate repair illustration, if available...
